Police drop Livingstone aide probe

Crime and equality adviser Lee Jasper asked Mr Livingstone to refer a string of allegations against him to police in a bid to clear his name.
Mr Jasper has been at the centre of a row over alleged funding irregularities involving community projects.
The Evening Standard in London claimed hundreds of thousands of pounds had been paid to the projects, with little or nothing to show for it.
But a Metropolitan Police spokesman said allegations of misconduct, where there is no evidence of a crime, are not a matter for the police.
He said: "The Met is investigating six allegations of fraud that have been referred to us in connection with six organisations that received public funding.
"In addition we have received a request asking us to consider the conduct of one individual and his involvement with these organisations.
"To date there have been no criminal allegations reported to us in connection with this individual, but as with anyone should concerns arise out of the fraud investigation, or subsequent criminal allegations be reported to us these will be considered and appropriate action taken.
"However matters of alleged misconduct that are not supported by evidence of criminal wrongdoing are not a matter for the police."
The City Hall saga engulfed the police last week when Mr Livingstone referred several matters concerning his colleague to police. As a result Mr Jasper was suspended from his job at the Greater London Authority and later resigned from his role on the Trident black gun crime advisory board.
