Police hunt motorway gunman

Police have launched a murder hunt after a biker was shot dead on a busy stretch of motorway.

Air ambulance crews were called to treat the man at the scene of the incident between junctions 13 and 12 on the M40 in Warwickshire, but he died.

It is thought the biker may have been a visitor to the Bulldog Bash some 20 miles away at the Long Marston airfield near Stratford, - billed as Europe's number one biker party.

Police confirmed they were treating the shooting as murder and said an incident room had been set up at Warwickshire Police headquarters.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the southbound carriageway of the M40, between junctions 13 and 12.

A spokesman said they found a motorcyclist who had "suffered very serious injuries". He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both carriageways of the motorway in Warwickshire are closed between junctions 14 and 12 southbound and northbound between 10 and 13.

Organisers of the Bulldog Bash said they were aware of a shooting.

A spokesman said: "At the moment we are all a bit shocked about the shooting - I've got nothing to say."
