Police officer 'stabbed in head'

One eye-witness said he was stabbed in the head. Police said another officer was also wounded in the incident in Swindon, Wiltshire.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said a 26-year-old man was arrested after the incident in Swindon's Liden area.

The stabbed dog handler is in Great Western Hospital, Swindon, with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

Police received a report of a serious assault at a property in the Liden shortly after 2pm. Officers arrived to find a man brandishing a knife.

Passer-by Lee Stone, who witnessed the incident, said he saw an officer being stabbed in the head.

He told the Swindon Evening Advertiser: "We have had a couple of drugs raids round here but nothing that bad.

"Two policeman were called out to a flat and the next thing one of them got stabbed in the head.

"He was taken away in an ambulance and had his head bandaged, but he put his thumbs up. I hope he is OK."
