Police probe after two found dead

Police are investigating after two people were found dead in a house.

The bodies were found at an address in Hanover Square, Woodhouse, Leeds, a West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said.

The cause of the deaths is unknown but officers are treating them as suspicious. Police are also appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

The spokeswoman added that the bodies - a man and a woman - were discovered on Sunday evening. Inquiries are going on to trace their next of kin.

Post-mortem examinations were due to take place later.

A lone policeman stood outside the mid-terrace house on Monday morning while a police van was parked at the rear of the property. The house is located in a predominantly student area.

Students Andrew Stanley, Kieran Leckey and Michael Bird live next door to the house where bodies were found.

Mr Stanley, 19, a second year student at Leeds University, said the couple were of African origin and were friendly and polite when he saw them.

He said: "There was only a couple who lived at the house, as far as I was aware. There used to be loud music occasionally but otherwise they were fine. They would say hello. They were quiet and seemed genuinely nice people."

Local shopkeeper Raj Patel said a man and woman from the house used his shop quite frequently. He said: "I think they're from Africa and have been here about three years. They seemed polite and nice. They never caused any problems."
