The victim was gunned down just after 10pm on Friday night in Kirkby, Liverpool.

The 23-year-old was found outside the Kingfisher Hotel pub in Bewley Drive and police believe the shooting was a targeted attack. Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.

Paramedics treated him at the scene for gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach before he was taken to hospital.

Following surgery his condition was described as critical.

The pub and car park were cordoned off to allow forensic examination and house to house enquiries are being carried out.

High visibility patrols have been increased in the area to provide reassurance to the community, said a Merseyside Police spokesman.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.

The four arrested are three men aged 20, 23, and 51, and a 47-year-old woman, all from the Kirkby area.
