Police probe Father's Day tragedy

16 January 2008
Police family liaison officers are with the relatives of the father and children who were found inside a Land Rover on Father's Day near an isolated beauty spot in North Wales.
The man, boy and girl both believed to be under 10, were discovered by a member of the public on an undesignated road near Llanrwst in the Snowdonia National Park - where Mike Todd, chief constable of Greater Manchester Police was found dead earlier this year.
Police said the incident was being treated as suspicious but were not looking for anyone else.
The vehicle was removed and the bodies were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital where post mortem examinations will be conducted.
It is believed the father, his son and daughter were from Cheshire.
The deaths appear to echo the horrific case of Keith Young, 38, who killed himself and his four sons in March 2003 in Llangollen, North Wales.
Mr Young, of Winsford, Cheshire, was distraught about his failed marriage to estranged wife Samantha Tolley.
He put a petrol fuelled lawnmower in the family car and telephoned his ex-wife as their four children slowly died.
An inquest recorded a verdict of suicide for Mr Young and unlawful killing for boys Joshua, 7, Thomas, 6, Callum, 5 and Daniel, three.
