A 19-year-old man was injured while inside a social club in Croxteth, Liverpool, and a 43-year-old man was shot in the stomach in a property in Edinburgh Road, Kensington, in the city.
Police said the men's injuries were not believed to be life- threatening and they were not linking the shootings which are around five miles apart.
Officers were called to the first shooting shortly before 9.30pm on Saturday after reports three men had entered the foyer of the Stonebridge Inn in Shard Close and shot a man.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "The victim received injuries to his back.
"The offenders are described as wearing dark coloured clothing. At this early stage of the investigation it is believed the shooting was targeted."
The spokesman said it is believed a shotgun was used but the motive was "unclear".
In the second shooting police were called at 10.20pm after reports a man had entered a property in Edinburgh Road and shot another man.
The Merseyside Police spokesman said: "The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and was treated for his injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.
"At this early stage of the investigation it is believed the shooting is targeted but the motive for the shooting remains unclear."
