Police quiz Madeleine suspect again

The only named suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is being requestioned by police, it has been confirmed.

British expatriate Robert Murat, 33, attended a police station in Portugal's Algarve on Tuesday morning and is being questioned by detectives, a spokesman for the McCann family said.

Justine McGuinness said the issue was a matter for Portuguese detectives, and the abducted four-year-old's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, did not wish to comment.

It is now more than two months since the toddler was snatched from her bed as she slept in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz as her parents dined at a tapas bar nearby.

Her parents, backed up by sports stars and multimillionaire businessmen, have launched repeated appeals for information but despite a number of sightings in Portugal and further afield, police remain without any clear leads.

Last month it emerged that Mr Murat, a Briton living with his mother Jenny just yards from where Madeleine went missing, had given a second DNA sample to police.

Policia Judiciara spokesman Olegario Sousa said the second swab, taken two days earlier, was given because the first sample might have been insufficient, contaminated or even lost.
