Police quiz new mob murder suspect

Police are questioning another man about the murder of Kevin McDaid, who was beaten to death by a loyalist mob in Northern Ireland.

The 33-year-old was one of two men arrested on Thursday in connection with Sunday's killing in Coleraine, Co Londonderry, with the other being released on bail pending further inquiries.

Six men have been remanded in custody charged with Mr McDaid's murder, which they all deny.

They, and another two men, also deny the attempted murder of Damien Fleming, 46, who was critically injured in the attack.

Some of the men were also charged with assault - Mr McDaid's widow was attacked, as was a pregnant neighbour.

The accused, aged between 18 and 50, appeared one after the other handcuffed to guards at Ballymena Magistrates' Court.

They are to reappear at Coleraine Magistrates' Court by video link on June 8.

More than 30 armed riot police ringed more than 70 loyalists who filled the public benches as the men appeared.

Sunday's violence flared when a loyalist mob of up to 40 entered a Catholic area of the town after Rangers beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership.
