A force spokesman said: "We can confirm that the body of a young man has been recovered from the River Sheaf in Millhouses Park.

"It was spotted about a quarter of a mile downstream from where a teenager was reported to have been swept away.

"Police cannot yet confirm the identity of the young man.

"The body was recovered by the fire service and the police's underwater search team."

The exact age of the missing youngster is not known but he is believed to be in his early teens, possibly 13 or 14.

Later, it emerged that a 68-year-old man had been killed in Sheffield as he got into difficulties trying to cross a flooded road, South Yorkshire Police said.
