Police station woman 'strangled'

A 20-year-old woman who died after she was carried into a police station had been strangled, police said.

Officers said Michelle Greenwood was in a collapsed state when she was brought into Thorne police station, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, at 3.55am on Sunday.

Ms Greenwood. from Knottingley, West Yorkshire, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but died at around 5.45am.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said a man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

She also confirmed a post-mortem examination revealed Ms Greenwood had been strangled.

The police station, on Durham Avenue, in Thorne, was sealed off as investigations continued, along with the junction between Selby Road and Ferry Road.

Both areas have now been reopened.

The spokeswoman said: "A 28-year-old man from the Stainforth area of Doncaster has been arrested in suspicion of murder and he's currently being questioned by police."
