Melda Wilks, 49, of Birmingham, is charged with assisting an offender - her son, who is accused of killing 19-year-old Amy Leigh Barnes.
Magistrates in Bolton were told that Wilks is alleged to have allowed forensic evidence in the case to be destroyed.
Amateur footballer Ricardo Morrison, 21, was charged with Miss Barnes' murder last November and is currently in custody ahead of his scheduled plea hearing at Manchester Crown Court on February 20.
Miss Barnes was stabbed at her home in Moss Street, Farnworth, Bolton, on the morning of November 8 last year. She died in hospital hours later from her injuries.
Morrison, her ex-boyfriend, was arrested by police in the West Midlands and his mother was detained shortly afterwards.
Wilks, an officer with West Midlands Police, of Hollyhill Road, Rubery, was granted conditional bail.
She will next appear alongside her son for a preliminary hearing on February 20.
Miss Barnes had modelled for Cosmopolitan and Nuts magazines and had also appeared in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.
Her friends included a number of Premier League footballers.
