Post office murder: Four remanded

Four men have appeared in court charged with the murder of a sub-postmaster's son.

Brothers Christopher Morrissey, 31, and Declan Morrissey, 33, appeared alongside Anselm Ribera, 33, and 24-year-old Adrian Snape, charged with the murder of Craig Hodson-Walker, 29.

Redditch Magistrates' Court heard the men were also charged with the attempted murder of Craig Hodson-Walker's father Ken, at Fairfield General Stores and Post Office in Worcestershire on January 9.

Chairman of the bench Victoria Quarton remanded the defendants into custody to next appear at Worcester Crown Court on January 26.

The men, who were arrested in dawn raids across south Birmingham on Tuesday, face a third charge of attempted robbery, the court heard.

Mr Hodson-Walker died after a raid at the post office he ran with his parents Ken and Judy, both 56.

The four defendants spoke only to confirm their names, ages and addresses. None of them entered pleas or applied for bail during the 20 minute hearing.

There were more than a dozen police officers at the hearing. In the dock the defendants were guarded by seven prison officers.

Christopher Morrissey, of Elmay Road, Sheldon, Birmingham; Declan Morrissey, of Shirley Park Road, Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands; Ribera, of Topfield House, Druids Heath, Birmingham; and Snape, of Camelot Way, Small Heath, Birmingham, were charged by West Mercia Constabulary on Friday night.

Five other people arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assisting an offender were released on police bail on Thursday.
