Potters Bar families remember crash

The anniversary of the West Anglia Great Northern express train crash which claimed seven lives comes just weeks after the derailment of a Virgin Rail Pendolino train in Cumbria.
Just as at Potters Bar, the Cumbria crash, in which an elderly woman passenger was killed, was caused by faulty points.
This has prompted renewed calls for a public inquiry into both crashes and has led a planned April 2007 inquest into the Potters Bar deaths to be adjourned by Mr Justice Sullivan.
He said that it was not his responsibility to investigate the Cumbria crash, but he had to consider it to decide whether it shed any light on what happened at Potters Bar.
The judge added that he would write to Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander seeking his views on whether the investigation should proceed "by way of inquest or public inquiry or some other route."
In the Potters Bar crash a train travelling from London to Kings Lynn in Norfolk was derailed as it went over faulty points just outside Potters Bar station.
Lawyer Louise Christian, who represents the families of those bereaved by the Potters Bar crash, said: "It looks as if the two crashes were very similar and that is incredibly worrying.
"I think the Government has a responsibility now to set up a public inquiry into both incidents."
Transport union the RMT has also called for a public inquiry into both crashes.
