Probe after bodies found at house

Two bodies were found at a property, police said.

Police were called to the address in Normanton, Derbyshire at 3pm on Tuesday.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called to a property in Moore Street where the bodies of two people were found. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths."

Local resident Ian Stuart said police were guarding the outside of the property but residents were not being told to stay in their houses.

"I've had no contact from the police at all," said Mr Stuart, a 42-year-old civil servant.

"This is a typical inner city street, not a particularly bad area. I'm not aware of anything like this round here before. I've no idea who lives there."

Detective Superintendent David Cooper said: "The bodies of a man and a woman were found just before 3pm by a friend of the occupant of the house who was visiting. That friend called police.

"From what we have seen at the scene we are satisfied that this is suspicious. We are treating it as a murder investigation".

Detective Superintendent Cooper said that forensic officers have been investigating at the mid-terrace property.
