Probe as bodies found in house

The bodies of a man and a woman have been found in a house.

They were found at an address on Rakeshouse Road in Nelson, Lancashire just after 1pm on Wednesday, and the deaths are being treated as "unexplained", a spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said.

Post-mortem examinations are due to take place later by a Home Office pathologist as police work to identify the victims.

Police said inquiries have been launched by the force's major investigation team.

Detective Superintendent Graham Herrmann, who is leading the inquiry, said: "We have launched an investigation following the discovery of two bodies at an address in Nelson and inquiries are continuing to try and establish the circumstances.

"We are in the early stages of the investigation and we are keeping an open mind about what may have happened and our thoughts are with the families of the two deceased."
