Probe into Mandelson 'slime' attack

Scotland Yard have launched an inquiry into a green "slime" attack on Business Secretary Lord Mandelson by a climate change protester.

The Cabinet minister was attacked by Leila Deen, 29, of campaign group Plane Stupid, as he arrived at a summit to launch the Government's low carbon industrial strategy.

Lord Mandelson, who was caught in the face seconds after getting out of his ministerial car, dismissed the incident as an "adolescent prank".

Ms Deen, 29, launched her attack outside the Royal Society before walking away unchallenged.

She told reporters afterwards that she was protesting over a reported meeting between Lord Mandelson and lobbyists for Heathrow owner BAA.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating circumstances surrounding an incident in Carlton House Terrace, SW1, at about 8am on Friday.

"Officers from Westminster CID investigate. There have been no arrests. No complaint has been received."
