Railway worker killed by train

A railway maintenance worker was killed after being struck by an empty train close to a busy station.

All four railway lines at the scene of the incident, near Reading station in Berkshire, were closed while emergency services were called shortly before 5am on Thursday.

Two lines remained closed during the busy rush hour, causing delays to services in the area.

A spokesman for Network Rail, which employed the worker, said he was struck by empty coaching stock being moved from Reading to Slough.

Rail accident officials have launched an investigation into the incident.
