Ramsay tops Michelin star chef list

Gordon Ramsay has become the joint most Michelin-starred chef in the world.

The foul-mouthed star of The F Word and Hell's Kitchen was awarded two stars for his new restaurant in New York city, even though it received poor reviews from local food critics.

Ramsay now holds 12 prized Michelin stars for his restaurants around the world, putting him level with French chef Alain Ducasse.

The website for the New York outlet, called Gordon Ramsay at The London, promises the diner "contemporary elegance, exquisite cuisine and unparalleled service".

But one local reviewer found the cuisine "as reliant on default luxuries... as on real imagination".

Ramsay, 40, said: "It is a great honour to have received two stars from the Michelin Guide in our first year in New York.

"To achieve such recognition means a huge amount and I am very proud of Chef de Cuisine Josh Emett, the Maitre d' Jean-Baptiste Requien and our very talented team."

Under the Michelin rating system, a restaurant can be awarded up to three stars for excellence in its cooking, service and wine list, and two stars indicate "excellent cuisine, worth a detour".
