Record high as UK basks in sunshine

Parts of the UK are expecting more unseasonally high temperatures after the country enjoyed the hottest February 12 on record.

Many areas had an almost completely sunny day on Tuesday, with Trawscoed in Ceredigion seeing the highest temperature at 18C.

This is similar to the average for June in that part of Wales, and more than double the February norm of 7C.

Elsewhere, the mercury reached 17C in Capel Curig in Snowdonia and Manchester, and 16C in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire.

John Hutchinson, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "There was some fog early on around Glasgow and the Vale of York, but this cleared."

He said parts of western Wales and Scotland could expect to see more high temperatures.

"There will still be quite a lot of sunshine in a lot of places, but I expect it to cloud over later on," he added.
