Residents weep at runway decision
15 January 2009
Plans to build the third runway mean the loss of an entire village.
Debbie Power, landlady at the King William IV in Sipson, expects to lose "everything" as a result of the development.
The 30-year-old said: "The third runway will mean both my house and this pub will go. It will mean totally starting again. I lose everything."
She added: "I like where I live and I would have never chosen to move."
The community of Sipson will cease to be once work on the building of the third runway begins.
Tracy Howard, a local mother, who had been crying, moved to Sipson from London 12 years ago, to "improve the quality of life" for her children.
She said: "If this runway goes ahead, I lose my home, my job and my daughter's school. I am completely devastated."
Ms Howard, who lives in the village with her husband, said she had been campaigning to save the village for months but feels her only option now is to emigrate.
She added: "We have been here for 12 years and all of a sudden Gordon Brown wants to change our way of living. For me, the only option now is to leave the country, maybe for New Zealand or Canada."
