Sean Alexander Laxen vanished after falling into the River Conwy in Snowdonia 24-hours ago.
North Wales Police said the body of a young boy was recovered shortly after 6pm.
A formal identification has yet to take place although police believe it to be the missing schoolboy.
Teams of underwater police divers, mountain rescue and fire-fighters began the search for the youngster on Monday afternoon after Sean slipped six foot from a footpath near Conwy Falls, Betws-y-Coed, while on a family holiday.
Emergency crews were alerted to the apparent accident by the boy's mother at 3.18pm on Monday.
A frantic search and rescue operation was launched by police and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue officials.
A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: "At approximately 6.10pm the search team at Conwy found the body of a young boy. No formal identification has been done yet.
"At this time we do believe it is the body of the missing boy Sean and the family have been informed."
The River Conwy is believed to be swollen following recent heavy rain. Conwy Falls is a popular tourist attraction with a wealth of woodland walks and paths.
