Sally Anne killer loses appeal bid

The murderer of teenage model Sally Anne Bowman has lost a bid to challenge his conviction.

Three judges threw out an application for permission to appeal by chef Mark Dixie, who is serving life with a minimum term of 34 years behind bars.

Lord Justice Stanley Burnton, Mr Justice Treacy and Mrs Justice Slade, sitting in the Court of Appeal in London, ruled that his application was "entirely without merit".

Dixie, now 38, stabbed 18-year-old Sally Anne and had sex with her while she was "dead or dying".

Her near-naked body was found in a pool of blood in the driveway of her digs in Croydon, south London, a few hours later in September 2005.

Dixie, who had a string of sex convictions in Britain and Australia where he lived for six years, denied killing Sally Anne.

He claimed he found the teenager, thought she had passed out drunk, and had sex with her.

He said he did not realise she was dead until after he had sex with her. But he was convicted at the Old Bailey last February.

Present in court for the ruling were Sally Anne's mother Linda Bowman and sister Nicole Chiddy.
