Scarlett 'given drugs cocktail'

Teenager Scarlett Keeling was given a cocktail of hard drugs before she was raped and murdered on a beach in Goa, police said.

The array of drugs - Ecstasy, LSD and cocaine - used on the 15-year-old was revealed by Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar after a second man appeared in court in connection with the killing.

"It has come into the investigation that Scarlett was given Ecstasy, cocaine, LSD and alcohol," said the officer.

And he said he could not rule out further arrests in the case, adding: "The investigation is still open."

The man who appeared in court was Placido Carvalho, said by the police officer to be aged between 30 and 35 years old.

He said Carvalho came before the court on suspicion of assisting in the murder by drugging the girl. Carvalho was remanded in police custody for 14 days.

Police are questioning the first man they arrested, Samson D'Souza, 28, who has already been remanded in custody for 14 days.

Meanwhile, a third person has been arrested in connection with 15-year-old Scarlett's death, according to Mr Varma.

Local police initially said the death of Scarlett, whose semi-naked body was found in the resort of Anjuna on February 19, was an accidental drowning.

A murder investigation was launched following a second post mortem examination - carried out following pressure from her family - which showed she had been attacked.
