Sentencing of violent city gang

Members of a violent street gang that brought murder and mayhem to a city's streets are being sentenced and face long jail terms.

All 11 gang members have now been found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court of 26 of 27 charges ranging from murder and gun possession to drug dealing.

Colin Joyce, 29, and Lee Amos, 32, leaders of Manchester's notorious Gooch Gang, were both convicted of the drive-by killing of a mourner at the funeral of a man Joyce had "executed" months earlier.

Joyce, whose trouser pockets were specially adapted to act as a gun holster, led the Gooch Gang in dealing drugs, torturing street dealers who crossed them and targeting rivals.

It all culminated in the murders of Ucal Chin, 24, and Tyrone Gilbert, 23, who had links to the rival Longsight Crew.

Gang warfare erupted in the city in 2007 after the pair were released on licence from jail for firearms offences.

On June 15 Chin was driving in south Manchester when he was ambushed by killers in a silver Audi who blasted him seven times with a converted Russian Baikal pistol.

Six weeks after Chin's death on July 27, father-of-three Tyrone Gilbert attended the funeral, and the wake continued at Ucal's family home in Frobisher Close, Longsight.

Shortly before midnight, the Gooch Gang drove past in a Honda Legend, closely followed by a blue Audi and another silver car. The gathering of around 80 mourners was sprayed with gunfire from a Smith and Wesson, a "Dirty Harry"-style Magnum revolver and a 9mm semi-automatic machine gun. Gilbert was killed by a single bullet to the chest.

Also in the dock during the six-month long, £5 million trial are Narada Williams, 27, also known as "Yardie" and his brother Ricardo, 26, Hassan Shah, 25, and Aeeron Campbell, 25, all senior members of the gang, while Aaron Alexander, 22, Ricci Moss, 21, Kayael Wint, 20, Gonoo Hussain, 25, and Tyler Mullings, 18, were lower-level "foot soldiers".
