Serviceman held in murder bid probe

A serviceman has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder a female officer cadet at the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, the Ministry of Defence Police said.

Amii Calway, from Dover, Kent, was found with serious head injuries outside a building at the Sandhurst Academy in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It is thought the 22-year-old fell from the third floor of the building.

A 25-year-old serviceman, described only as a member of the Armed Forces, is being held at Maidenhead Police Station.

The female cadet, who celebrated her birthday at the end of June, was due to pass out as an officer from Sandhurst this week.

She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey, where she is believed to be in a critical but not life-threatening condition.

The MoD Police spokesman said: "A 22-year-old female officer cadet was found with serious head injuries outside a building at Sandhurst in the early hours of Thursday morning.

"She is believed to have fallen from the third floor of the building. She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey at just after 4am. She is believed to have suffered serious head injuries."

The serviceman is being detained overnight - but has not been remanded in custody - and will be questioned again on Friday morning, the spokesman added.

A joint investigation into the incident is being conducted by the MoD Police and the Royal Military Police. Thames Valley Police are also involved.
