Shakilus death: sixth charge

A sixth teenager was charged with the murder of 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend, Scotland Yard has said.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named, will appear at Sutton Magistrates Court on Monday.

Shakilus was beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed in an attack in Thornton Heath, south London, last Thursday. He died the next day.

On Thursday and Friday, five teenagers aged 15 to 18 appeared in court charged with the boy's murder.

All were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey in October.

Shakilus, from New Cross, was found by police and ambulance staff in a doorway to a block of flats.

He was taken to St George's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a single stab wound.
