Shopper stabbed in armed raid

A shopper was in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed as he tried to prevent offenders fleeing the scene of an armed robbery.

West Midlands Police said the man, aged 45, also received head injuries as he tried to apprehend three men involved in the raid in Birmingham.

The offenders, all described as black and wearing hooded coats, escaped with a large quantity of cash after threatening the owner of the the General Store in Newcombe Road, Handsworth, shortly before 11pm on Saturday.

A police spokeswoman said: "During the incident a customer attempted to apprehend the offenders. He received stab wounds and injuries to his head."
