Six bailed over homophobic attack

Six teenagers arrested over the homophobic attack on an off-duty trainee policeman have been released on bail.

The six were arrested by officers investigating an assault on James Parkes, 22, who is gravely ill in hospital after Sunday night's attack in Liverpool city centre.

Pc Parkes was enjoying a night out with friends when he was battered by a mob of up to 20 youths outside the Superstar Boudoir club, police said.

He is described as in a serious but stable condition with multiple head fractures and fractures to his eye socket and cheekbone.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said two 15-year-olds who remained in custody on suspicion of assault had been bailed pending further enquiries. Four others, two aged 15, one 14 and one 17, were released on bail on Monday.

All six are from the Kirkdale area of the city.
