Six missing after storm sinks boat

Six crew members from a French fishing vessel are missing after their boat sank in storm conditions 50 miles off the British coast.

It is understood the vessel, Le Petit Julie, went down during the night off the coast of Cornwall and only one member of the seven crew has been found.

Falmouth Coastguard said the French authorities are co-ordinating the rescue, which could be hampered by the severe weather.

Coastguard spokesman James Gilbert said: "Winds in the area are anything up to severe gale nine, which does make it a little more difficult and more worrying for the people that are missing.

"At the moment it will be cold, which will affect the time of the sailors' survival."
