SNP to attack 'Labour's recession'

The SNP is expected to turn its campaigning fire on "Labour's recession" as the party conference begins its first full day.

Delegates at the party's annual conference in Inverness will debate a motion condemning Labour for policies which the SNP claims have resulted in Scotland facing economic recession and heavy job losses.

Finance secretary John Swinney will also deliver his key note speech, with the conference due to focus on economic issues.

As well as the speech from Mr Swinney, activists will debate action being taken to help Scotland recover from the recession, the future of the financial services industry and the economic potential for green energy.

Parliamentary business minister Bruce Crawford said: "Over the last 18 months the Scottish government has faced the challenges of Labour's recession, and shown we've got what it takes to drive Scotland forward and to get Scotland working."

He added: "Throughout this recession the SNP has acted quickly to put Scottish recovery and protecting hard-working Scots at the heart of all our decisions."

Justice secretary Kenny MacAskill is due to address the conference in the afternoon.
