Soldier dies after Iraq accident

The soldier, a member of 1st Battalion The Scots Guards, was travelling in a Warrior Armoured Vehicle when it was involved in an accident in Basra province in southern Iraq.
He was taken to the field hospital at the UK base at Basra Air Station and flown to the UK for treatment, but died from his injuries.
The soldier's next of kin have been informed and have requested a period of 24 hours' grace before further details are released.
Last month two SAS members were killed when their RAF Puma helicopter crashed in Iraq.
Another two British military personnel were seriously injured when the aircraft came down near Baghdad.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced last week that the Basra province is to be handed over to Iraqi control in two weeks.
That means the remaining 4,500 British troops will focus more on training local Iraqi forces, before UK numbers dwindle to 2,500 from the spring.
