Stabbed teenager dies in hospital

A Somali teenager was killed after being stabbed in the head, police sources said.

Ahmed Mohammed Ibrahim, 17, died and another teenager was injured in the incident next to a leafy park in Liverpool.

Officers were called to Croxteth Drive after receiving reports of an assault.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said Mr Ibrahim was taken to hospital suffering head injuries but later died.

Another boy, also believed to be 17, was treated for cuts to his arms and hand.

Area Commander Superintendent Steve Ashley appealed to the large Somalia community in Liverpool to help the inquiry.

The scene, next to leafy Sefton Park - a popular spot for walkers and runners - has been cordoned off for a forensic sweep.

Three people - who are thought to be similar ages to the victims - have been arrested.

The police spokesman said there was no initial suggestion the attack was linked to other crimes in the city.

Gary Billington, 44, who lives in flats overlooking the scene, said: "This is out of character for the area."
