Stabbing murder: Teenagers released

Two teenagers arrested after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in the street have been released, police said.

Detectives are hunting a group of youths seen fleeing the scene in Chesterford Road, Newham, east London, after the youth was stabbed late on Thursday night.

Paramedics called to the residential area found him with a stab wound but he was pronounced dead soon afterwards.

Two 16-year-old boys arrested in connection with the murder were questioned at an east London police station before being released with no further action at the moment, Scotland Yard said.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that he died of a stab wound but the victim has not yet been officially named.

Neighbours said they heard shouting and swearing in the street shortly before the teenager was found injured.

One man said he saw up to three young men running away shortly before midnight on Thursday.

Scotland Yard said the murder was not linked to gang violence and officers were investigating whether the victim knew his attackers.

One line of inquiry is said to be that some kind of row took place before the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room in Barking on 020 8345 3715.
