Stars unaffected by BBC pay freeze

The salaries of top BBC stars such as Jonathan Ross and Sir Terry Wogan will not be affected by the corporation's pay and bonus freeze, it has been confirmed.

Hundreds of senior BBC managers were told their performance bonuses would not be paid until further notice and their salaries frozen.

Thousands of other BBC staff who would have expected a bonus this year were also told it will not be paid.

Staff at the corporation's commercial arm, Worldwide, will continue to be eligible for annual bonuses in line with existing contractual commitments.

The measures are expected to lead to savings of more than £20 million.

The likes of Ross, who reportedly earns £6 million a year, Radio 2 presenter Sir Terry, who is believed to be on £800,000 a year and Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, on a reported £630,000 a year, will not be affected, as they negotiate their own contracts with the corporation.

A spokesman for the corporation said: "Our talent sign a contract at the BBC which does not fluctuate through their period of working."
