Straw urged to outlaw web violence

Roger Gale, Conservative MP for Thanet North, acted after watching Monday night's edition of the BBC's Panorama programme entitled Kids' Fight Club, showing such scenes of violence which had appeared online.
He said: "Those people who are supposed to control these areas of the internet effectively say they will do nothing about this and give the impression that they consider themselves to be above and beyond the law."
He continued: "All this violence and criminality, which is deliberately photographed so it can be shown on the internet with impunity, would be totally unacceptable if it appeared on terrestrial TV or in the newspapers."
Mr Gale said he had now written to Mr Straw urging him to ensure that such internet sites are properly policed and to change the law to ban such activities.
"It would appear that anything goes on the internet without fear of prosecution," he added.
