Talks continue over post dispute

Crucial talks aimed at breaking the deadlocked postal workers dispute are set to resume.

Leaders of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) met Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier throughout Thursday in a bid to resolve the bitter row over pay, jobs and pensions.

Talks were adjourned and there was no indication whether the two sides were any closer reaching a deal, but they agreed to continue talking on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday hundreds of postal workers in Liverpool voted to end their unofficial strike, which has delayed mail deliveries on Merseyside for the past week.

The workers took wildcat action in a row over shift times and remained on unofficial strike for several days.

A proposed deal was previously worked out between union leaders and Mr Crozier but the union's postal executive wanted further clarification before deciding whether to recommend acceptance in a ballot of the union's 130,000 members.
