TV star Chris Tarrant has been cautioned by police after allegations he assaulted a fellow diner in a curry restaurant.

The 60-year-old was arrested on May 13 after a man also eating in the MemSaab restaurant in Nottingham claimed the star threw cutlery at him and cut his arm.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host went to Nottingham Police to accept a caution and the case against him has now been closed.

"I am glad that no charge has been brought against me and I can now put this over-inflated affair behind me."

Sources said an independent pathology report showed the man's alleged injury could not have been caused by Tarrant, who admitting lobbing cutlery at his table, because there were no cuts or marks on his shirt.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "A 60-year-old man has been cautioned for common assault following an incident with another diner at the MemSaab restaurant in Maid Marian Way on Sunday May 13 2007."
