Teenager `fatally stabbed in fight`

A teenager stabbed to death after rival "postcode" gangs clashed at a girl's birthday party has been named by sources as Dale Robertson.

A gang of up to 40 youths, some armed with baseball bats and knives, fought running battles in the street in Sheffield on Saturday night, it was claimed.

Emergency services were called to Rokeby Drive, Parson Cross, Sheffield, just after 11pm following reports an 18-year-old man had been assaulted "by a number of people".

Witnesses said they saw the victim staggering in the street before he collapsed to the ground in a pool of blood. He was taken to hospital in the city but died from his injuries, South Yorkshire Police said.

Two youths, aged 16 and 17, are being held on suspicion of murder.

Part of the street remains cordoned off as police carried out a detailed search of gardens and alleyways close to the murder scene.

Officers could be seen looking in hedges and bushes while other colleagues spoke to residents.

A group of tearful youths later arrived to place flowers at the scene.

One youth said a fight started in the street between rival gangs following a party celebrating a 16-year-old girl's birthday. The 16-year-old, who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals, said the fight involved two rival Sheffield gangs.

Sheffield has a recent history of postcode-related gang rivalry which has sometimes resulted in bloodshed. Saturday's fight is believed to have involved members from Sheffield's "S6 and S5" postcodes, the youth said.
