Katherine McGrath, 18, is alleged to have stabbed 22-year-old Alyn Thomas at the home she shared with her parents in Fenwick Drive, Bridgend, south Wales.
McGrath was arrested by police at the scene and was charged with murder earlier on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to the address at around 2.30am last Friday.
Paramedics found Mr Thomas, who was from Cymmer, Neath Port Talbot, at the house but were unable to resuscitate him.
The teenager, wearing a white jumper and flanked by two security guards, spoke only to confirm her address and date of birth as she stood in the dock.
Chairman of the magistrates Paul Porter rejected an application for bail by her solicitor Paul Hinton.
McGrath's 29-year-old brother Daniel watched from the public gallery as the tearful teenager was led back to the cells.
Mr Porter said she would be remanded in custody until September 1 when she will appear at Cardiff Crown Court.
