Teenager shot dead in attack on car

A black teenager was shot dead as he sat in a car with a friend, Scotland Yard said.

The 18-year-old died of his injuries after the attack in Plumstead, south east London.

Police said he was sitting in a silver Ford Fiesta in Long Walk, close to Woolwich Common, when two men fired several shots into the vehicle.

The second victim, also aged 18, suffered injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The attack, which is being investigated by officers from Operation Trident, took place at 10pm on Sunday.

A spokesman said both victims were black.

He said: "We believe we know the identity of the deceased but await formal identification."

The victim is the latest in a grim toll of young people killed in shootings and stabbings in the capital.

Two weeks ago, Polish care worker Magda Pniewska died after being caught in the crossfire between two gunmen in New Cross, south east London.

Anyone with information is asked to call 020 8247 4553 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
