Teenager shot dead 'probably armed'

The 17-year-old victim, named locally as Tarek Chaiboub, was shot in broad daylight at a barber's shop in the busy Burngreave area of Sheffield.
He managed to stagger out of the hairdresser's but died on the street outside as staff and youngsters from a nearby children's centre looked on.
Sheffield's most senior police officer said the attack could well have been gang- related but tried to calm local fears, saying the city remained one of the safest in the UK.
But Ch Supt Paul Broadbent said he could not confirm reports that the teenager who died had just been released from hospital after a savage knife attack on him a week ago.
Mr Broadbent said the victim of the shooting could not be formally identified until a post-mortem examination had taken place.
He confirmed that the teenager had just gone for a haircut at Frenchie's Barbers on Spital Street when a number of shots were fired shortly before 1.45pm. Mr Broadbent said a gun was found close to the body and added: "I believe he (the victim) was carrying a firearm."
The senior officer said: "In my opinion there may well be a gang element involved in this particular crime. Is it linked to other crimes that have occurred recently? Formal identification of the young lad hasn't yet taken place. Until that takes place we are not able to evidentially link any incidents over the last week or two weeks to this particular crime yesterday."
He said detectives had already received a lot of information from the public and said people did not seem frightened of coming forward.
Mr Broadbent said: "This was someone's son, brother. Let's not let things get out of hand. Some people may wish to take the law into their own hands. Let's not do that."
