Teenager's body found in park

Police are appealing for witnesses after the badly beaten body of an Asian teenager was found in a park.

The body of the 16-year-old boy, who has not been named, was found in Crow Nest Park, in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, at 7.30pm on Sunday.

He appeared to have been seriously assaulted, police said.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At 7.30 police were contacted by ambulance services called to Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury. The body of a 16-year-old youth was found. He appeared to have been subjected to a serious assault."

He said the boy was Asian, wearing white tracksuit bottoms, black trainers, and a Bench top.

"We know there were a number of groups of youths who were in the park (on Sunday) and we need them to come forward as a matter of urgency.

"We believe we know the identity of the deceased though we are not yet in a position to release it."

The boy's body was found in historic, landscaped parkland surrounded by terraced houses and former textile mills.

Crow Nest Park opened to the public in 1893 and boasts an ornamental lake, museum, terraced walks, a woodland garden, and promenades. In the past decades a cricket ground, tennis courts, bowling green, playground, and allotments have been added.

The park is busy and popular with visitors.
