Ten injured in motorway pile-up

At least 10 people have been injured in a major motorway pile-up, police said.

The collision on the M4 in Wiltshire involved two lorries, an empty coach and four cars.

The motorway is closed in both directions after the accident which happened at around 1.45am between junctions 17 and 18.

It is not expected to open until noon and motorists are warned to expect traffic jams.

Police said no-one was killed in the accident, but one of the 10 casualties was seriously injured.

A spokesman from Wiltshire Constabulary said: "A number of people have sustained injuries and both carriageways have been closed.

"The motorway is not expected to be reopened until noon due to damage caused to the central reservation and the need to remove heavy vehicles from the carriageways.

"Diversions have been put in place but heavy congestion is expected."
