Three dead in Basra attack, says MoD

Three RAF servicemen have been killed in a mortar attack on their Iraqi base, the Ministry of Defence said.

The men died after the Contingency Operating Base in Basra came under fire sometime on Thursday. Next of kin of the dead men have been informed.

Two of the servicemen were from 1 Squadron RAF Regiment, while the other was from 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.

An MoD spokeswoman said: "They were killed in an indirect fire attack on the Contingency Operating Base in Basra, Iraq.

"For operational security reasons we are unable to give any further details."
