The body, believed to be that of a 40-year-old man, was discovered in the grounds of the property in Wormelow, Herefordshire, just before 8pm on Thursday.
West Mercia Constabulary are treating the death as unexplained while detectives wait for the results of forensic tests and a post mortem examination.
A police spokesman said: "Police were called to the premises at 7.48pm on Thursday August 14 where they found the body lying on the remains of a bonfire in the grounds.
"Police believe the deceased may be a 40-year-old male but have not been able to formally identify him as yet.
"Police are treating the death as unexplained at present and are hoping that the results of the post mortem, forensic tests and other available evidence will enable them to focus the inquiry in a positive direction."
Forensic searches of the cottage and house to house inquiries in the area have been carried out.
Police have also sealed off an address in the nearby village of Much Birch where a forensic search has taken place.
The three people arrested remain in custody helping detectives with the inquiry.
