Three held over girl's Goa death

Police have arrested three men in connection with the death of British teenager Scarlett Keeling in India, according to reports.

The development follows a second post-mortem examination that took place on the 15-year-old's body in Goa after pressure from her mother Fiona MacKeown.

Ms MacKeown from Bideford, Devon, has spent the weeks since her daughter's death demanding an investigation and claiming that Scarlett had 50 marks on her body and was murdered.

Initially Indian police said the death on February 18 was an accidental drowning, but it is now believed they have launched a murder investigation after the second post-mortem showed she had been attacked.

The results also found she did not have enough water in her lungs to have drowned.

Ms MacKeown was on a six-month holiday with Scarlett, her boyfriend and six other children in Goa when Scarlett died. The group had flown from Britain in November.

The rest of the family were travelling in a nearby state and Scarlett had stayed with a tour guide when she was last seen at a bar in the popular resort of Anjuna.

Scarlett's mother managed to find clothing of her daughter's on the beach and has also taken witness statements in an attempt to find out what happened.

Earlier she said: "Scarlett's death was no accident. She was a very good swimmer - she grew up body-boarding near where we live.

"Some people believe Scarlett was drunk on her last night, but I know my daughter, she wasn't a drinker. She just didn't like drinking."
