Tories' lead narrows in latest poll

The ComRes survey for The Independent gave the Conservatives an eight-point lead, down from 11 points last month.
While Labour has not improved on its 30% support, Tory backing has declined by three points to 38%.
The Liberal Democrats, under new leader Nick Clegg, are up one on 17%.
Repeated at a General Election, the results would give the Tories 311 seats, Labour 264 and the Lib Dems 44.
The poll found that remaining challenges for Tory leader Mr Cameron include winning over skilled manual workers, where support for the Conservatives (35%) is virtually neck-and-neck with Labour (34%).
The Tories also continue to trail Labour among 25 to 44-year-olds.
The Conservatives' decline in support comes despite renewed controversy over party funding, resulting in the resignation of Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain last week.
The Government has also faced fresh embarrassment over its data handling after the Ministry of Defence lost the details of 600,000 people interested in joining the Armed Forces.
ComRes telephoned 1,003 GB adults from January 25 to 27.
