Tories open up 11 point lead

The Conservatives have re-opened a potentially general election-winning opinion poll lead over Labour - moving 11 points clear.

In the latest monthly voter survey by ComRes for The Independent, the Tories gained three points to stand at 41% while Labour stood still at 30%. It would be enough for a 38-seat majority.

David Cameron's party were ahead in every socio-economic class, each British region bar Scotland and all age groups apart from the 18-24s - the least likely to vote.

The Liberal Democrats were also unchanged on 17%.

ComRes telephoned 1,010 British voters over the past three days.
