Fusilier Bush, of the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, died on Tuesday, 10 days after he was badly hurt in an explosion as he tried to rescue an injured colleague.
His father Carl said: "Shaun was an extremely brave soldier who died while doing the job that he loved."
He added: "He wanted to serve with the Army from a very young age."
Fusilier Bush, 24, from Coventry, died at the Royal College of Defence Medicine in Selly Oak. He was flown back to Britain after suffering serious injuries in an explosion on August 15 while on a foot patrol in Sangin district, of Helmand province.
His colleague Sergeant Simon Valentine was fatally wounded in an explosion and Fusilier Bush was injured in a second blast as he tried to rescue him.
Fusilier Bush was the 70th British serviceman serving in Afghanistan to die this year and the 207th to die since 2001.
In another grim day for Britain's armed forces, two bodies were repatriated and the funerals of two other soldiers will take place.
The bodies of Sgt Paul McAleese, of the 2nd Battalion The Rifles, and Private Johnathon Young, of the 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington's), were flown into RAF Lyneham in Chippenham, Wiltshire.
The funerals of Private Jason Williams, of the 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment, and Private Richard Hunt, who was serving with the 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh and was the 200th British serviceman to die, will also take place.
